The 40 degree opening morning
air temperature was belied by a bitter wind that made even your bones cold.
A few brave souls went to stands early in vane. Lots of shooting was heard
in the Timber but nothing seemed to be moving. After breakfast the hunt
started in earnest with Scott seeing 3 does and something else unidentifyable.
One of the does wanted to dance but Scott turned her down. Jack jumped
a big buck going in but got no shot. Later he could have killed a big doe
with a ballpeen hammer. The wind made it real noisy in the woods and the
deer were holding tight. The crew pounded lots of territory but not a shot
fired. Jim found a woven fence and has the shin scars to prove it. Only
one shot was heard all afternoon so none of the other hunters were doing
any good either. The wind picked up and the freezing rain started about
5. Mike did a nasty digger on the porch and damn near slid off the end.
Kevin went to his rescue and landed on top of him.

The road trip went well even though Mike wouldn't come
up with a dollar. It was, however, still "smooth as glass". Everybody made
it back on the ice with no one in the ditch. Jack, Jim, and Robert all
slide through the stop sign by Keil's without incident. Fuzzy brought out
a new TV but it was decided to wait for Jim to hook it up. Then in the
morning for the second day in a row, to everyone's suprize, for the first
time in living memory, Jim got up and went to his stand so the "experts"
who wouldn't hook up a TV decided that they could adjust the satalite dish
without him. After cleaning the ice off the dish and cutting half a dozen
trees they gave up and waited for Jim to come in. He got it back on line
about 9:30 and found the the pre-pre-game. The temperature leveled out
and the rain increased and even Manly wouldn't go out. They did manage
to get the cars out before it got too muddy. Scott had to hook up with
the Double Bucks to tend bar and most of the crew headed for T-Bobs.
In any event, a good time was had by all. See
you next year!!
